Sage Francis - Personal Journals (2002)

I think it's pretty safe to say by now that this is one of the most classic Underground Hip Hop albums. More of a self observant poet than a rapper, but with killer flow and rhymes, Sage seems to open it all up for us. He talks about life in the road, Underground Rap scenes all over America, love, hate, loneliness, politics, race, Hip Hop, Rock N Roll, pussy, drugs & money. Yes, he is white, but one of my favorites nonetheless. I love this album so much I made THREE links for it. Check it.

Crash Test Dummies

Not much terror, but a lot of good songs. This Canadian band was around since 1991, and besides the huge hit they had with 1993's Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm, no one really gave a damn about these guys. Since then they released a lot of albums, most of them on indie labels, experimenting with everything from Hip-Hop to Country & Western. My personal-nostalgic fav is 1999's Give Yourself A Hand, which was recorded after a year that Brad Roberts (singer and main songwriter) has spent living in Harlem, NY, collecting tons of groove infected influences. Wonderful albums, wonderful songs, this dude has a great deep voice, and it's eclectic as hell, so there must be at least 1 album for every kind of music lover here. Go nuts.

Randy - Randy The Band (2005)

Well, I saw these guys opening for Bad Religion, and to tell you the truth, I enjoyed it, but I wasn't completely blown away. But being a fan of Nothing Nice To Say, I just had to see how come these guys released an album worthy of Mitch Clem's yearly top 5 (although it's the wrong year, Mitch... What we would call a Fadicha). Then I remembered... They're Swedish. DUH! All Swedish people are incredible musicians, it's common knowledge, just like rhythm and black people. Anyway, they really are awesome players and this album rocks really hard. Just get it now, OK?

Hatebreed

One more of the crazy ass shows we're gonna see this summer... Sincerely, one of the best Hardcore bands that ever lived. For 10 years, these guys seem get love from Metalheads, Hardcore kids, Punks and Even Nu-Metal and Emo lame-o's. These guys are an empire.

Leaders of the New School - A Future Without a Past... (1991)

For all you Rock N Rollers who know nothing, this is Busta Rhymes' first group, with one of the cockiest names in the history of hip hop. But how did JT put it? "Is it really cocky when you know that it's true?" These guys really brought something new to the table... Check this shit out.

Scotch Greens - Professional (2006)

Credit to Gabilicious for introducing me to this. When you first heard it, it sounded kinda like the "Redneck Flogging Molly", but this is much more. There's AC/DC - KISS style Rock N Roll, Bluegrass, Outlaw Country, Blues and the Punk Rock, of course. They basically stole my idea for a band.

Machine Head - The More Things Change... (1997)

Megaupload works just fine with Firefox once again... Cause for a celebration!
This is one powerful album. I was 14 years old when this came out, and me and my nigga Berko listened to this one non-stop. This edition features three bonus tracks, one original song, A Discharge cover and an Ice-T cover (although the following album after that kinda sounds like a bunch of badly done Ice-T covers).

Anyway, go nuts.

The Stooges

Hardly a complete discography, but all official studio albums released by this groundbreaking band, who we're all gonna see perform in Israel this summer. For you non-Israelis, you should know that this is the first summer EVER that so many cool artists are planning to come and play gigs here. This hardly ever happens. Probably since we're gonna get wiped off the map very very soon, and people are starting to realize that this could be their last chance to take out money as well.

I had a chance to see Iggy Pop in Berlin, but I ended up not-going cuz I wanted to save my money for the Pixies show, which was the next day. At the Pixies show Kim Deal shouted "Who here went to see Iggy Pop last night?", and many people in the crowd roared their lungs out. I got bummed.
See? Everybody gets a second chance.

So, just to prepare you to one of the greatest shows any of us are ever gonna see (at least on an Israeli stage), here's The three classics, and the slightly boring but still cool reunion album.

1969 - The Stooges

1970 - Fun House

1973 - Raw Power

2007 - The Weirdness

Lady Sovereign - Public Warning (2006)

I wasn't quite sure at first, but now I'm positive. This chick can rock the fuckin' mic in such a refreshing way... She ain't tryin' to be pretty or go all "I wanna sample famous shit like Gwen Stefanie" stuff... This bitch is here to crack your skull. Now what does that teach us, kids? Sometimes, things get signed to Def Jam for a reason! In my opinion, the best, or at least the coolest Hip Hop album from the UK since The Streets' Original Pirate Material.

The Business - Suburban Rebels (1983)

Top of the mornin' to ya! To balance out all that Nu-Metal leftovers from the Incubus show frustration, Here's one of Oi!'s biggest classics ever...

Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. (1997)

Well, last night thousands of Israeli fans saw Incubus for the first time. As usual, bands remember to come to Israel only about 10 years after they lost all relevance... The show sucked monkey balls, and many people who grew up on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself were hella-disappointed, since most songs they played were from the last two albums. So at least we can remind ourselves why we started to like this band so many years ago, by downloading one of the ONLY albums from the short-lived Nu Metal "genre", that actually did something original, vital and timeless.

Alkaline Trio

Their songwriting tends to remind me of Elvis Costello's, Phil Spektor's and even Bob Dylan's, at times. Their lyrics are probably the most honest, real and powerful observations of an ordinary Joe's "feelings" in the Punk-Rock-sphere, thanks to a simple and very direct language, accompanied by three or four chords per song. They may wear make up, but then again, so does KISS. This is some of the best Rock N Roll music I know. Even BETTER than KISS.

"I rejected the faith in your holy race is what it comes down to,

you said everything would work out just fine I just went crazy,
I’m better now having a good time
being selfish, drunk, vulgar and lazy"

1998 - Goddamnit

2000 - Maybe I'll Catch Fire

2000 - Alkaline Trio

2001 - From Here to Infirmary

2003 - Good Mourning

2005 - Crimson

2007 - Remains

Whole Wheat Bread

Corey is the mothafuckin' man for introducing me to this one. They may look like a Rap group, but they're just an all-black Pop Punk trio from Jacksonville, Florida. Hangin' with the likes of Lil' Jon, and even covering his tunes, along with other Dirty South and Crunk hits. Their rhyming techniques are most definitely influenced by rap lyrics and flows, but the music is straight out, shameless, hooky-as-fuck Pop Punk.

2005 - Minority Rules

2006 - Punk Life EP
