Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris (2007)

Haven't really decided what I think of this album yet. I listen to it everyday, and I can't help but noticing it's a bit boring. It is QOTSA, however, and if there's one thing I'm sure about, is that the single "Sick Sick Sick" fuckin' kills.

Bill Hicks - Salvation (2005)

A 1992 live recording by the almighty prophet of worldwide counter-culture.
He's in Oxford, doing his trademark routine... what's special about this show, however, is that the audience isn't so into Bill. There are some laughs, but in a much mellower manner than the usual... at some point he just freaks out, and starts bashing the audience...

Pure gold.

Clutch

Seriously, ever since my nigga Eran introduced me to this band, I can't stop listening to them.
I've been working SO HARD on this post, trying to get everything in good quality... you fuckers better appreciate it.

Formed in 1990, they make Stoner Rock, Hardcore, Rhythm & Blues, Funk and Metal, all mashed into a juicy pulp of Americana at its absolute best. Self aware, cynical and sometimes quite disturbing lyrics. A band EVERYONE should get to know, like, NOW!

I recommend the latest albums, myself, but they're all freakishly good.

The Nightwatchman - One Man Revolution (2007)

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), truly one of the most innovative guitar players in history in a surprisingly well done FOLK album. Obvious influences such as Dylan, Springsteen and Cash seem to be the main theme here, both musically and lyrically. Yes, he sings, too...

Sonic Boom Six - The Ruff Guide to Genre-Terrorism (2006)

Yoni recommendation.

Manchester band, seem to focus all their efforts on being the most original Ska-Punk band around. Critically acclaimed, rich sound and ideas and actually something insightful to say. Like all the other REALLY GOOD SkaPunk bands around, it's not REALLY SkaPunk. Like it matters.

Creature Feature - The Greatest Show Unearthed (2007)

Dweck recommended this one.

To say that I'm NOT a fan of Electro would be the understatement of the Millennium... but sometimes you just come across good music, good bands that couldn't give a rat's ass about who classifies them as what. This is one of those bands. Sort of Electro-Horror-Cabaret thing going on there. Not for everyone, but for fans of: Devo, Mindless Self Indulgence, Atom and his Package, Nekromantix, Gogol Bordello... And, for Lori.

Frenzal Rhomb - Forever Malcolm Young (2006)

One of the most under-rated bands in Punk Rock. It's indeed a request by the Noze, but I think these guys kick ass just as much. Genius lyrics, awesome musicians and great albums. This is the last one, I swear I'll post a discography someday... But for now, read the genius lyrics for the title track... So true...
"Never seem to be in front
Or part of the exciting times
Destined for a life of second best
The blackmail not the bribe
Together now whatever work has gone unsung
He'll be forever Malcolm Young
Always gnocchi not linguine
Never Hitler you're Mussolini
Often the sideshow but not the circus
Always Malcolm never Angus
End up Carlton you wanted to be Negus
Single pluggers never sneakers
Always headphones never the speakers
Shouldn't have a complex cause
he wrote Highway To fucking Hell
Together now whatever work has gone unsung
He'll be forever Malcolm Young
Don't be too cocky cause he wrote Stiff Upper Lip as well"

Bomb the Music Industry!

Apart from this shit being my moto in life or something, it's also a name of a very interesting project. I guess you can call them a SkaPunk band, but I wouldn't. I never heard SkaPunk like this. They record at home, with home equipment and distribute all of their albums (and their side projects' albums) for free download even without my help, or anybody else's, in the MP3 blog community, for that matter. Great lyrics, very cynical and "scene-centered", that's when he's not singing about another day of watching TV, alone. Anyway, this is really interesting, I would recommend to download the latest one first, cuz the first and second ones are what you would call "acquired taste", and the latest one also contains a Tom Waits cover. I'm also adding what the main songwriter and producer in this band, Jeff Rosenstock, says about each album, just to give you a general idea of what's going on there:

2005 - Album Minus Band

"The debut full-length album from Bomb the Music Industry! Recorded by ex-Arrogant Sons of Bitches frontman, Jeff Rosenstock in a bedroom as an unexpected creative outburst during a month-long sobriety spree. Unlicensed cover songs. Unlicensed audio samples. Great times."

2005 - To Leave Or Die In Long Island

"Soon to be reissued on limited edition colored vinyl and picture disc, this mini-album documents the experience of being a broke musician in Long Island and solidifies the signature Bomb the Music Industry! sound. Sing-alongs, drum machines, synthesizers, saxophones played faster than fuck."

2006 - Goodbye Cool World

"Call it whatever you want! Post-ska! Laptop punk! This is the long awaited "difficult third album" (to put it in billy bragg terms) from ex-Arrogant Sons of Bitches frontman, Jeff Rosenstock. Synthesizers! Horns! Guitars! (fake) Drums! No merchandise just rock!"
